Come along and hear Hamish tell us about his illustrious sailing career both on and off the water.
He was Youth world champion with Chris Dickson and three time 470 class world champion with Dave Barnes.
He has coached at every Olympic Games since 1992 (Great Britain 2000, 2004 and 2008, NZ 2012, 2016) achieving top sailing nation at the Olympics each time. Results of the sailors coached being three silvers and one gold, most recently, Blair Tuke and Peter Burling.
Hamish also coached Peter and Blair to 4 consecutive 49er World Champion title wins between 2013 and 2016.
He has sailed in four America’s Cups with Prada, One World, Luna Rosa, and Oracle, and has completed the Southern Ocean leg of the Volvo Ocean Race in 1989.
And in his down time he’s cruised his own Cavalier 32 to Fiji in 1988 and then again in 2003 with his family on their NZ 37.
The Willcox family are currently sailing round NZ on their Davidson 44′ and plan to go north wards in 2017 crossing the equator and into Indonesia 2018. They then plan to circumnavigate via both capes returning to NZ from Chile in 2022ish, with maybe some coaching on the way in Japan 2020…
