The Development Squad had successful “have a go” days resulting in more sailors becoming apart of the programme. Over the past couple of weeks, the Development Squad sailors have been learning the ropes in the Elliot 6m. The new sailors are working hard on their boat handling and learning how to use A-symmetrical and symmetrical spinnakers for the first time.
Young sailors who are interested in match racing and keelboat sailing are more than welcome to sign up and come along to the training sessions which are on Sundays 9-2 pm.

The Under 23 Match Racing Squad has a total of 11 sailors in the programme for the 20/21 season consisting of some old faces and fresh ones. Over the past couple of weeks, the weather has been frustratingly light for Wellington. However, the U23 Sailors took it as an excellent opportunity to improve their light wind speed and boat handling preparing themselves for the regattas to come.
In mid-October, the Wellington Youth Sailing Trust is sending two youth teams to the New Zealand Match Racing National Championships which is hosted by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Harry Milne and Albert Stanley will skipper the two teams. Will Wright, Tasman van Bergen and James Bitchener will crew for Milne. Stanley’s team will consist of: Jon Barnett, Helena terry, Wilbur Stanley and Hugo Matterson.
If you are after a U23 Squad sailor to crew on your boat, feel free to contact the coach Callum Radford.Ā coordinator@wyst.nz, or 021557086.
