With deep sadness we note the passing of Arthur Stewart, long-time member, supporter, and stalwart of the Club.
A keen and accomplished sailor and competitor, Arthur was a shareholder in or raced on several famous yachts, including Dollar Equity, Pacific Sundance, Whispers of Wellington, Granny Apple, Thundercloud, and Red Herring II.
As well as regularly sailing in Club events, including pretty much most offshore courses the Club has run, he competed in numerous significant international events, including the Southern Cross Cup, the Sydney to Hobart, the Clipper and Kenwood Cups, the Big Boat series in San Francisco, the Transpac, and NZ – Pacific Islands races.
Arthur joined the Club in 1965, served as our Commodore from 1995-98, as our President, and he served on the board of Yachting New Zealand.
For his many years of service and accomplishment, he was made Honorary Life Member of RPNYC.
Our thoughts are with his family and many friends.
Sail on.
