Wellington turned on a beautiful autumnal day with a light breeze and sunshine for the closing day of our 2023-24 season, which is now when we host our annual Ambassadors Race. This is a unique opportunity for Port Nic to showcase our harbour, sport and hospitality – is there any other yacht club in the world that hosts an event like this for the Diplomatic Corps?
With the generous support from Lowry Bay and Evans Bay boats we had 28 boats on the harbour, hosting 40 members of the diplomatic community from 20 different countries. We also had the U.S. Pacific Air Force Band entertaining us with some catchy tunes before they flew out of the country.
Pork Chop, hosting Sweden, were the winners on Club Handicap receiving the Ambassadors Trophy – Chile. The 2nd place Ambassador’s Trophy – Chile on Club and Ambassadors Trophy – Argentina for PHRF went to Airship, hosting Singapore. The Ambassadors Trophy – Peru for line honours went to The Guarantee, hosting Australia.
The day concluded with H.E. Mr Alfredo Pérez Bravo, Ambassador of Mexico and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, dropping the club burgee. Thanks to all those that helped make this event such a success – from helping with the planning, sorting wet weather gear, food, race management to hosting our guests on and off the water.
