The CentrePort Wellington was a great International Youth Match Racing event featuring up and coming international youth match racing crews. Spectacular sailing in wild weather set against the backdrop of CentrePort Wellington and downtown Wellington City. This regatta would not have been possible without the fantastic ongoing sponsorship from CentrePort Wellington (event sponsor for the past 16 years). Despite the recent disruptions caused by the Kaikoura Earthquake, CentrePort Wellington continues to demonstrate their support for Wellington and New Zealand youth development through this international youth sailing event. Check out regatta report and photos below. Regatta report The CentrePort Wellington International…

Last Sunday was the WYST’s official launch for the four new Elliot 6 Sport boats. The Youth Scheme hosted guests at the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club for an ideal afternoon of food, sun and invitational races. It was awesome to see the trustees, parents and alumni getting involved with the activities. Thank you to all of the sponsors who helped us to put new boats on the water! Special thanks to those who put the long hours in applying for funding and also to Faith Taylor for christening the boats and continued support.

To be eligible for the regatta, each team must commit to at least three training sessions. Teams may have up to five sailors. This year we are trying to make it easier for more students to get involved through allowing composite teams from more than one school to enter. This is intended for…
Recently a number of volunteers from the WYST Under 23 Squad got together with the Blind Foundation of New Zealand and Blind Sailing NZ to host a “Have a Go Day” with a group of blind and visually impaired sailors, using the Trust’s Elliot 6 metre boats. With Wellington’s autumn weather behaving itself – well pretty much – a great day’s sailing was experienced in winds of 12 – 20 knots offshore from Oriental Bay. The fact that no one can actually see the wind was a great leveler and it was very impressive how quickly the sailors adjusted to…
