LBYC 24 Hour Endurance Race Warm-up
2 March @ 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm
The 24-Hour Endurance Yacht Race is a significant and unique event for the Lowry Bay Yacht Club and the Club is aiming to have an even larger fleet of yachts on the start line on the 3rd March 2018.
The organising team has put together a wonderful entertainment package for the weekend, starting with a music-filled club night on Friday the 2nd of March, the eve of start of the 24-Hour Endurance Yacht Race. We will be joined by a very dynamic, well-known yachting personality who will tell us about the circumnavigation of the globe, made only a handful of years ago. An official announcement will be made in due course. You are invited, compliments of the Commodore.
The start of the race is at 12 noon on Saturday the 3rd of March 2018 and the race will finish exactly 24 hours later at 12 noon on Sunday the 4th. As all yachts will have to have a GPS on board, skippers will take a GPS position at that time, so that the Race Officers can calculate the part lap sailed at the finish time. The Race Committee has set out two harbour circuits. The first one is approximately 17 NM and takes in most of Wellington Harbour. The second and all subsequent laps are 9NM and is sailed at the northern end of the harbour.
Prize-giving is at around 1500 on Sunday the 4th – time to celebrate your and your crew’s achievement. Last year we had a great party, enjoyed by all.
