Not only did we have a full Wardroom on a non-sailing day, but there was great complimentary food, challenging questions, banter and laughter, cheering and ‘shouldn’t-have-changed-our-first-answer’ sighs, a fabulous bar team and awesome prizes donated by our sponsors. We have a few decent scores to beat next time round, so get prepared now and keep an eye out for Signals Ashore and on Facebook for the next Quiz Night date announcement!

It’s been a long time in the making, and finally – just in time – the Wardroom was ready for the members and our 139th Seasons Opening Day. Heaps of volunteer hours and Jason’s, Chris’ and Marcia’s time were spent over the last weeks to hurry up the tradies, put furniture back in, shine up the trophies, stock the bar and clean, clean, clean. Dear members, Well, the Wellington COVID scare certainly had an impact on the number of members attending the AGM, but thanks to ‘spontaneous’ renewals and upgrades we have managed to achieve a quorum – thank you attendees for coming along. The outgoing board presented their reports as published, and shared an update on the ongoing Earthquake strengthening project which provided a few challenges so far but overall is still on track to finish in 5-7 weeks. It’s time for an update on the earthquake strengthening project. There has been significant progress over the past few months, especially on the design and technical side. And while a lot of effort has been put in to drive the funding, the return here is less exciting. At the AGM, the ‘40%’ strengthening option was the favoured one by our members. We also left the ‘67%’ option on the table should something come up that made this more viable, however this was not the case. Accordingly, all of our effort has been focussed on the 40% option, which involves: A…

In January, the Twilight Series took place on Wednesdays. This was a good way to get back into racing and also to eye up the competitor’s skills before the Regatta. We had 9 boats in total competing in this series and received great feedback. The first evening comprised of 4 W/L races of about 10 minutes each, controlled from Caniwi in the inner harbour. It was decided there would be no kites allowed in the boisterous 20 -30 knots conditions. Race day 2 was a club start with the finish at Jerningham, then 2 W/L races starting from Jerningham in…
