2023-24 season- get into it!

The days are getting longer, warmer (and a bit windier) signalling spring is on it’s way. That means its time to get your entries in for our 2023-24 season. The Sailing Committee have a jam-packed season planned, with something for everyone.

Our season starts with the Interclub series – where keelboats, trailer yachts, sports boats and multihulls from three clubs compete against each other for the Europa Cup this year. Three opening days, two divisions (spinnaker and non-spinnaker) and one trophy. Race dates are: Sunday 24 September Lowry Bay, Saturday 30 September Evans Bay and our own Opening Day Saturday 7 October.

The top club will be determined by the top 3 scoring boats from each club, for each race, with the winning club have the best score across the series. Entry for the Interclub Series is free, so enter now to ensure Port Nic has the best chance to get bragging rights for the season ahead! It’s free to enter here.

Next up is our Friday rum races. The Centre City Wines and Spirits Rum Race series starts on Friday 29 September. Note that this is before our official Opening Day of 7th October. This year we welcome Centre City Wines and Spirits as our naming sponsor, who provide us with a bottle of rum for each race. You can only win the rum once each season – if you hurry up and enter, and race the first races of the series, you improve your chances of getting your hands on the rum early! Entries are open here, just select ‘Rum Series’ on the entry form.  This series is ideal for the not-so-serious racers, and a great opportunity to introduce friends, family and WOSC graduates to our fabulous sport. What better way to unwind from the working week!
Building up from rum racing is our Gin Series. Sponsored by our friends at EuroVintage (fancy winning some gin?) this series has 10 races scheduled which comprise one harbour race per race day. This series is ideal for those that enjoy longer harbour courses or are wanting to build up racing skills without the pressure of short ‘round the cans’ legs.

And for the serious racers don’t forget to enter the full championship season – inshore and/or offshore. Our inshore championship racing starts with the spring series from October 28. Enter here. If you enter the full championship inshore season, you will be entered into all club inshore racing – including the Rum Series, and by ticking a box on the form, you’re also entered into the Interclub Series (that’s free) – it doesn’t get much easier than that! Barton Marine is back as our offshore sponsor – with 7 races programmed, starting with Brothers Island race in December. Full programme details are available here.

Don’t forget to come along and get the low-down on the season ahead, at our pre-season briefing on Wednesday 20th September – 18:00 in the wardroom.

So, no excuses – get your credit card ready and get those entries in and we’ll see you on the water!
